Wheels Museum

Nothing quite beats the charm of a Saturday morning at the Wheels Museum Inc. The delightful whiff of history, old iron and steam takes me back to a time I only know from the stories I’ve heard.

Railyard Worker Commemorative Plaques. Honor a loved one who worked on the railroad, honor a WHEELS volunteer or honor the WHEELS Museum. WHEELS is now selling plaques with name plates for $100.00 per name. Keep the memory of these people alive in perpetuity with a gorgeous wooden plaque with brass name plate. Thank those who made our city and state successful, built the railroad, continue to work to preserve our history and create our future. The plaques will be displayed in the Community Room at WHEELS.

   Excellent! Free (there is a donation box). The volunteers are wonderful. Anything with wheels, not just trains. Several things for kids to enjoy (model trains, railroad car, fire truck, and a kids train, etc).

   Great place. Everyone is very nice. My kid enjoyed the train ride and he got a free little hot wheels hummer. As an adult there is lots to learn about vehicles and the history of New Mexico. A hidden gem of Albuquerque and I highly recommend it.

   This museum is in a run-down part of town.  However, once you are inside, you'll see lots of model railroads, old cars, a ride-able train, some airplanes and other fun transportation items.  The volunteers were amazing, and this is worth a stop.

   I visited the Wheels Museum with two friends this morning, it was the first time visiting there for we three.
It's a very colorful and delightful experience. Put aside your preconceived ideas of what you think it is and visit this place to step back in time and see how the real
(Wheel) world was for the first half of the 20th century.  They even have a train ride for adults and children that is great fun!
We had the good fortune to meet the president of The Wheels Museum, Leba Freed as we were leaving.  She is an inspiration and the human dynamo behind the herculean task of creating from scratch a transportation history hub that will lead to a Renaissance of downtown and the rail yards. The Steam Locomotive ATSF 2926 will eventually call this area home, once again.
So grab granny and the kids and head on down to the Wheels Museum and be part of the Albuquerque experience.

   YOU NEED TO GO THERE! The Wheels Museum was an amazing surprise! I went there because my godson was visiting and he is into trains a lot and I expected to just go through, look at trains and leave. I could not have been more wrong! The volunteers are excited to show their projects and explain how everything works, which made it so much fun for us! The kids got to ride in a train, answered questions and won prizes. We got to pet a beautiful volunteer dog and in the end we stayed there much longer than expected because every volunteer had an interesting story to tell about the things that were on display in the museum. Thank you to all the volunteer for this amazing expereience!
