All Aboard!! \u201cWheels to the Hub\u201d for a Unique Fund-Raising Adventure<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fans of local railroad history are invited to take part in the \ufb01rst-ever \u201cWheels at the Hub\u201d train ride from Albuquerque to Belen on Saturday, June 13. Besides the ride, this unique fund-raising event includes a visit at the historic Harvey House Museum in Belen, buffet meal, silent auction, and other attractions to bene\ufb01t The Wheels Museum in the Albuquerque Rail Yards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Guests will board the New Mexico Rail Runner at 12:12 p.m. on June 13 for the 40-minute trip to Belen, once known as \u201cThe Hub City” because of a major rail junction on the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. In Belen, they will be hosted by the famous Harvey House & Museum. Built in 1910, it was the 86th restaurant in the chain of railroad restaurants operated by Fred Harvey, and is one of the few Harvey House facilities still standing in New Mexico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Activities at the event run from appetites to arts; a barbecue buffet with deserts made from the original Fred Harvey recipes; tours of the historical exhibits, a visit to the nearby \u201cDoodle Bug\u201d railroad engine, an art show by the Belen Art League, displays by artist Judy Chicago, a performance by the Mansion Players, and a silent auction to bene\ufb01t the Wheels Museum. A no-host bar will also be available. The Rail Runner will depart for Albuquerque at 5:49 pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Wheels Museum tells the story of the different means of transportation people have used over the centuries to come to and through this area. Located in the 100-year old railroad Storehouse Building at 1100 2nd Street NW, its exhibits range from Spanish carretas to classic cars and trucks, artwork and original posters and of course, model trains and authentic railroad equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tickets are currently on sale for $100 each, and $35 for children ages 12 and under. Price includes the round-trip ride on the Rail Runner, buffet, admission to the Harvey House Museum and a one year family membership in WHEELS.
