LAKE VALLEY BRANCH – Wheels Museum

Photos taken in 2015 near the connection to the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe (AT&SF) mainline between Hatch and Deming, NM. Branch northward to Lake Valley, NM to service silver mining operations in the late 19^th century. Home of the famous Bridal Chamber at Lake Valley. A pocket the size of a dining room produced over 2 million ounces of silver.

Railyard Worker Commemorative Plaques. Honor a loved one who worked on the railroad, honor a WHEELS volunteer or honor the WHEELS Museum. WHEELS is now selling plaques with name plates for $100.00 per name. Keep the memory of these people alive in perpetuity with a gorgeous wooden plaque with brass name plate. Thank those who made our city and state successful, built the railroad, continue to work to preserve our history and create our future. The plaques will be displayed in the Community Room at WHEELS.

   YOU NEED TO GO THERE! The Wheels Museum was an amazing surprise! I went there because my godson was visiting and he is into trains a lot and I expected to just go through, look at trains and leave. I could not have been more wrong! The volunteers are excited to show their projects and explain how everything works, which made it so much fun for us! The kids got to ride in a train, answered questions and won prizes. We got to pet a beautiful volunteer dog and in the end we stayed there much longer than expected because every volunteer had an interesting story to tell about the things that were on display in the museum.    I took my grandkids on Presidents Day. We arrived about 9:30 AM. No lines, volunteers running model trains , many old vehicles. They even gave my grandkids a ride on a train! This is an awesome outing for anyone who loves old wheeled vehicles.
